Experimental AnimationArtists in history seek innovative materials as means to express themselves, so do independent animators. Experimental Animation is a serious form of fine art; it is exploration, curiosity and inventions of concept, structure and techniques. I started out making 3D computer animation in 1996 because it was easy to learn and profitable. After the first year in CalArts, I came to realized that I need to take this art form into a more personal level. The fiber texture under camera lenses has always fascinated me. Fabric animation combines embroideries and movement of fabrics to represent the depth, intimacy and private path along the film strips. I have developed a system to ease the job by embroidering 12 pieces for every second of the film. I enjoy this very intimate dialogue with my audience and hope a longer piece will be born in the near future.
